The Fate of Two Fey [CLOSED] Empty The Fate of Two Fey [CLOSED]

Post by Nyx Sat Sep 17, 2016 10:55 pm

[Note: This topic takes place before The Faerie of the Island]

Why the hell is the sun so bright? It’s like it’s trying to kill me… Tch, I can barely see right now. Should probably go in the shade-- the woods should do. I’ll just glide down there… True to her thoughts, the young pixie began to descend. Her feet brushed the tops of the trees as she entered the forest. The heat’s really taking it out of me… D’arvit, why does everything in Neverland have to be so extreme? The people, the climate… If I had any say-- not that it matters. I don’t have any say.

Nyx glided down onto a log, using it as a chair to sit on. Who would listen to me? I’m just a puny fairy. Tch, we probably look like bugs to the rest of them. Even though I-- we-- are so much more than that. We could improve so much! We have all these abilities, but we do nothing! Instead of changing this meaningless disorder, we perpetuate it! “IT’S SO STUPID!” She waved her arms violently to the sides, then quickly withdrew them. She didn’t meant to yell. It was just so difficult controlling her emotions. They constantly swirled around inside of her-- like a demon trying to break free.

Maybe I am possessed… It’d explain why I’m not like the other fairies. But-- that’s not a bad thing, is it? If I was like them, no one would see how stupid things are-- no one would be able to change anything. Well, not like I can change anything. So what’s the point? Why am I allowed to see the world for what it is but not able to do anything about it? UGH-- fate’s laughing at me. Not that there’s a thing such as fate. I’m not that stupid to believe in something like that.

A rustle in the undergrowth caught the pixie’s attention. Her head snapped to the side and her eyes narrowed. She hoped it was just the wind. She didn’t have the patience to deal with anything else, and she didn’t feel flying away either. Just for once, she’d like to be able to relax. To not have to worry about Lost Boys stepping on her, or pirates kidnapping her, or fairies annoying her. Fortunately, the noise turned out to be none of the above: it was a rabbit. A small, black thing with yellow eyes.

The creature hopped over to the log, twitching its nose rapidly. It seemed to be staring at the Faerie intently. Nyx’s face warped into a look of disgust as it neared her. “Get away from me,” she scolded, “I don’t have any food for you.” Ugh, why do my kind have to be so caring… it’s because of them I get followed by these nuisances all the time.

The rabbit blinked in response, then immediately rolled over on its side. It kicked its legs in the air, appearing as if it were laughing. And then… it did. “AHAHAHAHAHA… haha… ha… Ah thought a’ve seen everything… but-- hoo, a Ne’er Fairy who didnae lik’ animals? Ha, that’s new… An’ here ah thought ye were a bunch of happy-go-lucky nitwits.” Appearing to have calmed down, the mammal rolled back onto its front. It then stood up on its hind legs, dusting off the dirt that had clung to its fur. “Sorry lass, ye took me by surprise.”

“T-took me by surprise?! You’re one to talk!” Nyx climbed to feet, stumbling backwards as she pointed at the other. You talk! What the hell are you? How did-- now you-- you’re standing!” I’m crazy. That’s it, that’s the only explanation. This island’s madness finally drove me insane. I’m hallucinating. That rabbit’s not talking. It’s not standing up. It’s not-- it’s walking towards me!

“Woah, calm yerself, lass. Yer nae gaun crazy. Ah’m just a Faerie, lik’ ye-- well, nae lik’ ye, but a Faerie.” He slowly approached the girl, arms up to assure her he meant no harm. “Ah'm a Pooka, an' an auld one at that... Th' ainlie one on Ne’erland, far as ah ken.”

“A-- a fairy? You sure as hell don’t look like a fairy! You’re… furry and fat and… and…” Nyx struggled to think of new insults, flustered by the absurdity of the situation. After 20 years, I should’ve run into him before, right? I mean, it’s a big island, but… “And what kind of name is ‘Pooka’?! It sounds stupid if you ask me!”

“Oi, ah didnae choose it, same as ye didnae choose ‘pixie’. Ah ken yer flustered, but try tae watch yer tongue, lass. Tis nae becoming o' ye.” The stranger sighed, then waved one paw in the air. “An’ tis Faerie, nae fairy. Ye’ll fin’ tis a much broader an’ general term.”

“S-sorry. I’m not usually this rude-- I mean, I am, but… It’s not often I run into something different.” That’s right, he’s different… Nothing is ever different… So… shouldn’t I be happy? But… I don’t feel any different.

“Ah could say th’ same. Yer nae lik’ th’ other fairies, are ye?”

“No, I’m not! I’m nothing like them,” she shot back, almost defensively, “I’m nowhere near as stupid as stupid as they are. And what about you? How the hell is a rabbit a fairy?”

“Ah didnae mean tae insult ye, lass. Just makin’ an obser’ation. An’ ah’m nae a rabbit, ah just look lik’ one.” To demonstrate, the Pooka knelt back down on all fours. He suddenly grew in size, the fur on his body receding and his legs thinning out. It took less than a minute for him to assume the form of a stallion. He neighed, shaking his mane out of his face. “We Pooka are shapeshifters. Ah just lik’ mah rabbit form best.”

“H-how do you do that?” Nyx, for once in her life, was in awe. But more than that, she was intrigued--if he was a fairy and could do that, then couldn’t she, also a fairy, learn to do the same? If she were to transform into a more menacing creature, or at least into a more respectable form, maybe then people would listen to her… maybe then she could make actual change. I wonder if I could speak the human tongue if I transformed into a human… It sucks only being able to chime all the time, and it would really help getting my point across if-- wait--” “You can understand me?”

“Ah tellt ye, didnae ah? Ah'm a Faerie. Ah may nae be th' same kin’ as ye, but we're good at learnin’ other languages.” The Pooka shrunk down to his original size, taking the form of an rabbit once again-- this time staying upright. “As for how ah can shapeshift... Hrm. Tis hard tae explain, but we Faeries git our powers fae Mistress Moon. Nae sure about Ne'er Fairies, but then again, yer nae exactly lik' them.”

“Mistress… Moon? Who the hell-- sorry. Who is that? Do you think… she could give me those abilities? I’m a fairy, too, right? That’s what you said. So she wouldn’t say no, right?” The pixie would never want to seem like she’s begging, but… she didn’t care what the Pooka thought of her. She just desperately needed his help.

“Hah, yer a funny lass. Mistress Moon is nae other than th’ Moon herself. Ah just refer tae her as such out o’ respect. But if ye lik’, I could teach ye mahself.”

The Moon isn’t a person, idiot, she wanted to say, It’s just a floating rock in the sky. However, she refrained from voicing her opinion. It seemed there was some truth to the rabbit’s words, so she decided to go along with it. “What do I need to do?”

The Pooka grinned mischievously before running off into the woods. “Meet me at mi’night, where Crocodile Creek meets Cannibal Cove! Ah’ll see ye there!”

“Wait! Why can’t you teach me now?!” Nyx tried to follow, but quickly lost the other Faerie amidst the undergrowth.

“Ah tellt ye, lassie, we need th’ Mistress!”
