What to do about bland structures?

Post by Drake Pathos on Thu Apr 23, 2015 7:42 pm

Let's be honest, some worlds were painfully simple. For example, Castle of Oblivion literally displays itself as a long hallway in COM. I was thinking, could we make our own improvements to their architecture? Give them something worth exploring? Instead of a giant square room for each floor and a hallway in between like Oblivion had. Alright, so maybe that's the only good example. But if y'all can think of more, then feel free to say so. It's mostly geared towards Castle Oblivion, but the idea of making up some parts of worlds is nice too. For example, China has mountains to explore and forests. That's pretty broad. However, I know worlds exist that had a linear path but could easily be RPed already as explorable. Worlds like Oblivion are different, though.

I've actually considered making a little post about what Traverse Town looks like and various places of note- mostly to cease with the bit of confusion and also to put a little flavor in the world. Of course, people could also ask me to add or remove a few things if they'd like- but again this is just an Idea. As for this overall, I shouldn't see why not- its just the community as a whole would have to go along with the world building as well. Well, this and World Leaders. They're in charge of all aspects of their world.

I feel like members should be able to develop things in world that have a world leader. When I hear world leader, I find it unrealistic that it is assumed the rule the WORLD. When, in honesty, there are elements that oppose the leader. They aren't gods, so developing creatures and monsters can be a thing. However, the architecture is something they control no question. Just have carpenters karoshi. Or, at least, be able to do anything as long as it's plausible and has the approval of that leader.

While agree with you entirely in that some worlds are just too darn simple, I will say that Castle Oblivion is more than just rooms connected by halls. The members of Organization XIII had to hang out somewhere, and I can't quite imagine Larxene lounging against a column in her free time. Razz

If you're familiar with the manga based on the game (though I wouldn't blame you if you aren't) there's tons of rooms that exist in the castle that Sora nor Riku entered in their floor smashing quest.

Same goes for other worlds I found really linear - Castle of Dreams, the Coliseum (if you include the Underworld as it own thang), the Mysterious Tower. Or Mage's Tower, what have you.

So I guess what I'm sayin' is... a world is only as vast as you make it? >_>

Well, I feel we need to establish thew structure since they never actually show how they are linked. I've read the manga, however it's been a looong time. Technically, Hercules' world has an established version of the Greek and Roman countries. As well as the tidbit city-states in between.

I suppose that is true. Wouldn't have Zack-Attack if it weren't for those city-states...

I guess it would do some good in helping us better understand what we can and can't do with CO if we had some structure. Otherwise, people might decide to throw some parties there just cuz they can. *coughcough* Though are we talking about just CO, or bland worlds in general?

Well, the original post states that this topic is geared more towards CO rather than the rest of the worlds, so I guess one could start there.

Well then, with that in consideration, CO doesn't have a world leader at this point. I'm guessing this means that the world and it's structure is left to member interpretation. So is the suggestion that we set up something like, "So-and-so is on this floor and XXX is one this floor."?

Do we even have that authority..? .__.

Or am I over-thinking? >_>

I would say, bring it before Lore Staff and see what they think. Zyvonia as the current head essentially controls the lore of the site, and layouts of the worlds would fall under how they ultimately interpret their size and layout relative to the areas the game shows us. Given that Castle Oblivion has a different reason for coming into existence here, it wouldn't be too far of a stretch to assume that its layout and function were ultimately different from its main counterpart.

Sora and Riku only entered the MAIN floors of the castle. One can only assume through the general design of the structure that there are, in fact, other rooms and areas accessible to members of the Organization. Both the manga and the game gave evidence that the Castle functions in the same mannerism as any other castle might, with various areas for living, fortification, and recreation.

However, given the case that the Organization does not exist in this AU (and therein, nobody has yet to explore Castle Oblivion, as Master Eraqus has been stated in the official site lore to have turned it prior to his leave) the makeup and contents of the Castle are open for interpretation.
Because Ventus does not exist in the same way here as he would per the normal canon, there is no Chamber of Sleep as far as we know. The room likely still exists, however, it may be under a different name. (Since Ventus isn't in there.)
What it contains, also, is another conundrum. Since Ventus isn't in this Chamber, we can assume something else is within. What specifically, the staff hasn't really considered.

While Castle Oblivion itself cannot shift memories of people within (that part of the castle fell strictly to Naminé,) it still retains the ability to copy areas, events, and people from the memories of people who pass through it. While (much like the Data Versions of the worlds,) none of them are actually real, these imitations would respond and act as though they were real, unaware of their origins. On that note, while these things are (possibly?) illusions, they are still able to hurt you (as demonstrated by bosses and characters such as Leon and Cloud being able to harm Sora, etc.)

As for what specifically is inside Castle Oblivion currently, one can assume that since it is Master Eraqus's world, it had some remains of what could have been a Keyblade Warrior Training Facility of some measure. Given that Master Xehanort is not present here to cause problems, we can assume there were a great deal more Keyblade-oriented individuals than originally produced in the canon. With that said, one could possibly find relics of said facility, as well as a library of information (we can assume,) somewhere within the confines of the castle.
What, specifically, could be contained in those relics and pieces of information? Personally, I would leave this up to the users, though I feel if things get too out of hand, the Lore Staff could intervene if something feels too...silly.

That actually helps a lot, but what other worlds could use this interpretation? I know CO had this issue, and that's mostly resolved by what you've said, but I assume any world with the same issue is open for interpretation. Do we ask staff/add to historia ourselves when we discover these extra, MAJOR areas?

As far as other worlds, adding things that we know for a fact aren't there would be a no-no. (For example, the areas in which Apprentice Xehanort conducted his experiments would certainly be there, as well as the Chamber that WOULD be holding Aqua's Keyblade Armor, if she were around. etc etc etc.)

Coming across that chamber on accident? Sure, someone could buy that. Xehanort doesn't exist. It could have a different way of getting in, a different code, and something entirely different inside that secret area.
The room that held the original Heartless Machine? Definitely has something else in there now, since...no Xehanort.

Areas in the Land of Dragons? It's ancient China -- there's bound to be oodles and oodles of ancient temples, shrines, and places where people went to better themselves in different ways. It wouldn't be entirely out of proposition that these areas exist. (IE: A Xiao Lin temple would probably be somewhere in all that.)

Deep Jungle is so dense that there's no telling what the hell's in there. It could be a number of things for all we know. It IS Africa, home to tribes of humans and civilizations long lost to the course of history -- who the hell knows what's going on in all that foliage.

Atlantica -- in the second movie and the Disney Afternoon running, we see a whole new spectrum of areas never previously explored. It's the friggin ocean! There could be all sorts of sunken treasures just sitting down there. Since Triton's not around, we can assume Ariel's Grotto is sitting there empty with who knows what in it now. The castle itself is probably rife with various thingamabobs.

Agrabah -- anybody who has ever watched the Disney Afternoon show KNOWS there is a lot of shit going down in that world. There's places as far off as Mirage's Dimension, where she just chills on a giant sphinx in freakin' SPACE. Mozenrath's Castle, filled to the brim with magitech stuff! The Moving Isle, shown in the third movie of the Aladdin Series, has the Hand of Midas and who the hell knows how much treasure just sitting there on the back of the turtle. The Lair of the Forty Thieves is just waiting to be discovered. Hell, even Abys-Mal's Lair has some stuff just sitting around in there. It's not just the Cave of Wonders out there, people.

Olympus Coliseum -- There's literally an entire WORLD out there besides the arena. Anybody who watched the Disney Afternoon knows exactly what I'm talking about. Greek Lore is BRIMMING with stuff to look at, and the show covered a very, very, VERY large chunk of areas that you could just walk right into -- Medusa Island, Theed, Thebes, Sparta (yes really,) the school Hercules went to, Phil's Training Grounds, the Darkened Woods, the Mountain of the Furaes....

What's in those areas? Again, that's up to the users and the world leader to make up. Again, if it's anything utterly ridiculous, we as the Lore Staff would step in and go...
"Uh, yeah...no...Cut that out."

The best way to know what's there and what isn't?
Watch some Disney Movies. Peek at the shows. They're floating around on the internet somewhere. Most of the ones I've found are actually on YouTube if you do enough dedicated searching. It's how I personally keep up on what is canon in the Disneyverse.

Well, I guess that's the end to the questions after that, lol.

Hopefully people use this as a reference/encouragement to explore.
